Abia road crash claims two lives as FRSC urges caution

Two persons lost their lives in a fatal accident involving a commercial Mark truck and a tricycle (Keke) with registration number ATN 201 VU along Umuahia – Uzuakoli road in Abia State.

Confirming the incident in a release she signed on Saturday, the Sector Commander, FRSC RS9.3 Abia State Sector Command, Ngozi Ezeoma, said “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Abia State Sector Command regrets to announce a fatal road traffic crash that occurred on Friday, 11th July, 2025 at about 4:30 p.m., along the Umuhahia–Uzuakoli route, specifically at Umuda.

“Upon receiving the crash report at 4:33 p.m., our rescue team arrived at the scene promptly within 2 minutes to carry out emergency response operations”.

She disclosed that six persons, including two males, three females and a child, were involved, while four persons, including a male, two females and a child, were injured, and two were confirmed dead.

Ezeoma said, “Preliminary investigation suggests the probable cause of the crash was speed limit violation (SLV), aggravated by wet weather conditions, as it was raining at the time. The road was paved, but visibility and control may have been compromised due to the weather”.

She informed that the injured victims were immediately transported to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, for prompt medical attention, while the deceased have been deposited at the FMC mortuary, Umuahia.

While extending its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing the injured a speedy recovery, the FRSC appealed to all road users, particularly commercial drivers, to obey speed limits, especially during adverse weather conditions, and to exercise caution and patience at all times.

The Corps, the statement said, remains committed to its mandate of ensuring safer roads and fuller lives in Abia State and beyond.
