Abia 2027: Group throws weights behind Onuigbo’s senatorial bid
Progressive Abia Youths for Good Governance (PAYG), a socio-political and pro-democracy group, has welcomed the recent decision of Honorable Sam Onuigbo to seek the election into the Nigerian Senate to represent Abia central senatorial district of Abia State.
Hon Onuigbo was a former Abia state commissioner of finance and former two-time member of the house of representatives who represented ikwuano/umuahia federal constituency of the state.
He is currently representing Southeast Zone on the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission.
Onuigbo had at the weekend declared his interest to contest Abia Central Senatorial District seat in the forthcoming 2027 elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He assured to continue to run on his EAR principle of Effectiveness, Accessibility, and Responsiveness in representing his people when supported to clinch the APC ticket to emerge as the candidate and next senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District.
However, Progressive Abia Youths For Good Governance (PAYG), while reacting in a statement issued on Saturday, noted that Hon Onuigbo’s invaluable contributions towards deepening democracy in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized, saying his latest decision reflected the yearning of majority people of the six local government areas that constitute the Abia Central Senatorial District.
The statement by the group was signed by the President, Surveyor Sam Onuigbo and the Secretary, Comrade Chinedu Emeruwa.
The Progressive Abia Youths for Good Governance (PAYG), noted that the former parliamentarian has remained unwavering in his commitment to nation-building and development.
The group recalled Rt Hon Onuigbo’s effective representation of Ikwuano/Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives at the National Assembly in Abuja.
It noted that Rt Hon Sam Onuigbo then in the House of the Representatives, initiated and made impactful laws that engendered youth, men and women empowerment in his federal constituency, and Nigeria at large, and as well as, strengthened relevant institutions of democratic governance in the country.
While lauding the sterling leadership qualities of the former federal lawmaker, the Abia youth organization reaffirmed their confidences in Hon Onuigbo’s ability and capacity to replicate same giant strides achieved then in the green chamber of the national assembly.
Progressive Abia Youth for Good Governance pledged to rally maximum support and bulk votes for the chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Onuigbo, to emerge victorious in party primary election, and the main poll in 2027.
The pro-democracy and youth advocacy organisation, therefore used the medium to call on the leadership of the APC in Abia state to cede its Abia central senatorial seat ticket to Rt Hon Sam Ifeanyichukwu Onuigbo, whom they described as a man of enormous capacities, and the best brain for the plum legislative job.
