The Need For NDC To Protect Its Tickets And Preserve Party Ideology

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is fast becoming one of the most attractive political platforms in Nigeria today, largely due to the entrance and influence of respected national figures such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Their popularity and credibility have given millions of Nigerians renewed hope for a better political future.

While this growing acceptance of the party is encouraging, it also comes with a serious challenge that the leadership of NDC must not ignore.

There is an increasing influx of politicians and aspirants into the party who never believed in the ideology, vision, or long-term mission of the NDC from the beginning. Many of them only joined after the arrival of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso because they see an opportunity to ride on the current political wave for personal ambition and electoral advantage. This development demands caution.

Political opportunists often move with the tide. They are loyal only when it is convenient and beneficial to them. Such individuals can become dangerous to the stability and future of any political party if entrusted with sensitive responsibilities or handed party tickets without proper scrutiny.

The NDC must therefore avoid the costly mistake of sacrificing genuine loyalists and committed grassroots builders for individuals whose commitment to the party remains questionable. Those who labored for the party before it became politically fashionable should not suddenly be pushed aside by newcomers who only discovered the party because of the influence of Obi and Kwankwaso.

Party tickets should not merely be given based on financial power, noise on social media, or sudden political popularity. They should be entrusted to individuals with proven loyalty, integrity, grassroots connection, and unwavering commitment to the ideals of the party.

The strength of any political movement lies not only in the popularity of its national leaders but also in the sincerity and discipline of those representing the party at various levels.

If the NDC truly desires to become a lasting national force capable of transforming Nigeria, then the leadership must protect the party structure from infiltration by political merchants whose loyalty may disappear the moment another political opportunity arises elsewhere.

This is the time to build a party founded on conviction, sacrifice, competence, and loyalty — not merely on temporary political excitement.

The future of the NDC depends on the decisions we make today.
