Nigeria’s economic quarmire: Ex-minister, Ogah defends President Tinubu-led administration’s policy reforms

A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr Uche Sampson Ogah, has defended the policy thrusts of President Bola Tinubu-led administration in Nigeria.

This is even as Ogah exempted tinubu’s administration of blame regarding socio- economic and infrastructural problems facing the country.

Baring his minds in an opinion article made available to THE PURVEYOR at the weekend, Dr Ogah who was also a former Abia State Governorship candidate of the APC, maintained that President Tinubu inherited the festering problems plaguing Nigeria, which ranged from economic downturn, infrastructural decadence, insecurity, increased unemployment, youth restiveness, poor standard of Nigeria’s education and health delivery systems.

He reminded citizens that governing a complex nation like Nigeria requires not just political authority but the courage to take decisions whose benefits will only become visible with time.

“Nigeria’s economic challenges did not suddenly emerge overnight. Years of structural imbalances created fiscal pressures that limited the country’s ability to invest adequately in development. Long standing debates around subsidy burdens, revenue limitations, and currency distortions had lingered within policy circles for years.

“When Tinubu assumed office, many observers expected the usual cautious approach that often characterises governance in difficult times. Instead, his administration moved with resolve to confront these realities while setting a new tone for fiscal discipline and economic restructuring,”He stated.

The ex-minister posited that beyond making difficult decisions to confront the myriads of challenges impeding Nigeria’s efforts to attain prosperity, President Tinubu-led administration focused on rebuilding the citizen’s confidence in the nation’s economic direction.

He asserted “efforts to stabilise the financial system, encourage investment, and reposition critical sectors have begun to send signals that Nigeria is determined to strengthen its economic foundations.

According to Dr Ogah, these measures are designed not only to address immediate pressures but also to create an environment where growth, innovation, and productivity can thrive in the years ahead.

“Infrastructure expansion, institutional strengthening, and broader economic reforms have also featured prominently in the administration’s agenda,”the foremost industrialist added.

Continuing, Dr Ogah noted “Tinubu’s extensive political experience has also played a role in shaping how these reforms are being pursued.

“Having spent decades navigating Nigeria’s complex political environment, he understands the importance of balancing decisive policy action with national unity and dialogue.

“His leadership style reflects both strategic patience and the confidence to move forward with policies that aim to strengthen the country’s future”.

The prominent APC stalwart further maintained that to ensure Nigeria’s progress requires partnership between leadership and the people.

According to Dr Ogah, the reforms being pursued by President Tinubu demand patience, unity, and a shared commitment to Nigeria’s future.

He reminded all Nigerian citizens that time is now for them to rally behind the direction of reform of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and contribute to the collective efforts of rebuilding a stronger, more stable, and more prosperous nation for generations to come.
