Nigeria, Congo to expand trade, peace, cultural cooperation

The Federal government of Nigeria has restated its commitment to deepening bilateral relations with the Republic of the Congo by expanding cooperation in trade, peace, and cultural exchange, describing the partnership as crucial to regional stability and mutual prosperity.

Yusuf Tuggar, minister of Foreign Affairs, gave the assurance in a statement issued on Friday by Kimiebi Ebienfa, the ministry’s spokesperson, to mark Congo’s independence anniversary.

In his congratulatory message to his Congolese counterpart, Jean-Claude Gakosso, minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Congolese Abroad, Tuggar praised the resilience and unity of the Congolese people, noting that their journey toward sovereignty and development remains an inspiration to Africa.
“This anniversary is a symbol of the determination, unity and resilience of the Congolese people’s journey towards sovereignty and national development,” he said.
“As Nigeria joins in celebrating this historic milestone, we reaffirm our shared commitment to peace, mutual respect and enduring bonds of African brotherhood”, Tuggar stated.
He recalled the long-standing cordial relations between both countries, highlighting cooperation in trade, cultural exchange, maritime affairs, and regional peace initiatives.
According to him, these engagements have strengthened ties and positioned both nations to play greater roles in addressing Africa’s shared challenges.
“On this special occasion, Nigeria reiterates its readiness to strengthen these valued ties, explore new areas of mutual benefits and continue working with the Republic of the Congo to address regional and global challenges,” he added.
The minister expressed warm regards to the government and people of the Republic of the Congo, stressing that Nigeria looks forward to sustained harmony, economic growth, and shared prosperity between the two nations.
