KINGSLEY OKWUM: Why Its Taking Time For Hip hop Music To Gain Acceptability In Abia

Hip hop Music is one of the most Globally accepted Music currently and the language and message easily passed across without any stress.

The beats or Rhythm goes naturally, leaving you with that insatiable desire and yearning for more.

Major cities in Nigeria that embraced HipHop Music have never been the same ever since.

In Lagos State apart from other Genres of Music as a hub of entertainment can boast of HipHop today as the richest Music leading while others are far behind.what I can’t say is who made it happen or how this Music took dominance of the largest market in Africa as far as Music is concerned.

The Star Musicians making waves in Nigeria today apart from Davido,Burnaboy,Wizkid ,Timaya and few others,major Musical Artists like Eedris Abdukareem,Tuface,Terry Tha Rapman,MI,Ice Prince, Modenine were products of Jos and Kaduna.

My point is that Music in Abia is backwards though the Odumodu, and Ariaria Musicians are Once in a while getting shows in the State which often comes without creativity because the time supposedly meant to show quality and talent is allocated a track of praising the governor with eulogies of all kinds.

Their other major functions is Burial or wake keep as for Weddings or Traditional Weddings the DJ’s and the Hype Men have taken over.

Now HipHop Music which should be the rave of the movement is relegated to the background because nobody wants to invest in it.

It seems there’s not too many talented people in that area but that’s not true ,it suffers because of poor Night life and engaging events to have an exhibition of talents in the State.

The Government of Abia is yet to give it a try,I remember cities like Enugu,Awka even Imo whose natural cultural heritage is Bongo Music had South End ,Freewinds and Singaholic produced out of a more challenging terrain to market HipHop Music.

The issue with the few Hip hop artists who started from Abia is the inability to measure up to the standard and fighting on a personal recognition from the government.

The time used to seek for personal interest could have been used for a well packaged proposal to the governor to see why night life and events to incorporate Hip hop and other Musicians should be improved in the State.

Mr Raw, Flavour, Phyno,Bracket,Zora and others started shining Locally in Enugu State before they hit Stardom.

How did it happen there were shows locally ,as Radio Stations were playing their Songs,they were engaged in government functions and other Multinational functions too.
