Ikenga Imo: How An Outstanding Legislative Performance Drives A Legislator’s reelection Bid

By Comdr Gerard Okalla

As political activities gather momentum across Nigeria, the ideato nation is not left out. Parties, politicians and voters are once again preparing for the election cycle.

Among the parties that have shown interest in the forthcoming elections, the Action People’s Party (APP) whose candidates wax stronger with each passing day appears ready for the political campaigns billed to kick-start by August 2026.
Prominent among discourse igniting political conversations are issues bothering on who to represent ideato nation at the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja come 2027.
With Rt Hon Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere’s bid for a second term, the political landscape in ideato nation is charged and his legislative achievements have attracted greater public scrutiny and favourable assessment. One thing that goes for the astute federal lawmaker is that while the opposition bandy words as to what they intend to do if elected , the social media is already awash with litany of verifiable and traceable achievements that have characterized Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere representation in the past three and half years.
From the day he assumed office in June 2023, Oje Ozi ideato, as he is fondly called, had hit the ground running. His vast experience as a student- leader, Rights activist, erstwhile Special assistant to the Senate President and constitutional lawyer must have enriched him with the requisite knowledge and inimitable exposure for what would later become an illustrious career in legislative governance.
HIS BILLS AND LEGISLATIVE IMPACTS
With floodgate of Bills numbering 43, 10 compelling Motions and 12 hair raising petitions, Hon Barr ikenga imo showcased masterful legislative acumen that has far reaching positive outcomes.
One recurring decimal about ikenga imo ugochinyere legislative efforts resides in the fact that his Bills and Motions , when considered, were not only nationalistic in nature but set that pro-offer solutions to the aspirations of his constituency. For example, Oje ozi has through his bills fought for constitutional amendments, advocating for a single term of 6 yrs for the presidency, governors etc. This when passed would curtail the penchant for 2nd term sit- tight syndrome among elected office holders and reduce the tension that envelopes the nation each election year. It is believed that in the 11th Assembly, when re elected, ikenga Imo will pursue this laudable bill capable of preserving Nigeria’s democracy and curtailing election spending.
Interestringly, Oje Ozi’s bills also speak to:
Constitution Amendments and State Creation
Electoral and Political
Reforms, (INEC and local Government Administrative Flaws).
Health: (Children and Women Hospital).National Children Hospital Ideato Imo State Bill (HB 1427)
National Hospital for Women Ideato Imo State Bill (HB 1426)
Youths and Persons with
Disabilities.
Trade and Commerce.
Water and Sanitation.
Education and its enabling infrastructure Including the Fed College of Education Umuobom Imo state, Establishment Bill 2024 (HB 1425)
Natural Resources including Mines and Petroleum.
Taxes and Fiscal Reforms Etc.
HIS MOTIONS AND THE IMPACTS
It is an incontrovertible fact that Hon Barr Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere made abundant use of this veritable legislative instrument for the good of his people. Through his various community- based and people- centered Motions, he effectively placed ecological problems and infrastructural deficits plaguing his Ideato federal constituency on the spot light of national politics.
A few instances suffice.
From the federal government backed near- complete reconstruction work on Orlu-Mgbee- Umuchima- Akokwa road and the erosion site thereof to the just awarded Ntueke- Umueshi-Isiekenesi- Okwelle road and the erosion sites thereof with recently contracted Nnewi-Uga-Akokwa- Arondizuogu-Okigwe long neglected road, all together bespeak positive evidences of the effectiveness of Hon Barr Ikenga Imo’s strongly presented and assidously pursued constituency focused motions.
SCHOOLS RECONSTRUCTION & EDUCATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE
Hon Barr Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere’s determination to promote education at the grassroots is unparalleled. His representation in just three years was able to facilitate massive construction and supply of over 1000No of Desks for use by pupils in Primary Schools across Ideato North and Ideato South.

A break down of Hon Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere’s incredible activities in this direction shows that in his first year in office, a total of 100No of beneficiaries in Secondary and Tertiary institutions recieved the scholarship awards, while during the Second Phase in 2024, it recorded yet again an emphatic 130 beneficiaries and in the 3rd year (the current year) a total of 150 students were happy beneficiaries bringing the total recipients to 380No

Total: 380 students supported across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels
AGRICULTURAL EMPOWERMENT
Ikenga Imo representation has continued to blaise the trail in all facets of quality representation.
It is to Oje Ozi Ideato’s credit that about 66 Ideato constituents have so far benefited from this laudable programme and are in turn actively involved in modern farming in realization of the set goals of his initiative.
The beneficiaries’ commitment in their chosen area of specialization has earned them self employment. Their activities have also helped boost farming resulting in a sharp increase in Agricultural productivity. Having been equipped by Hon Ikenga Imo representation, they are most assuredly assisting in training fellow ideato farmers on modern Agricultural practice that guarantees sustainable growth in food security.

WATER PROJECTS (BOREHOLES)
Across 24 communities in Ideato North & South Ikenga Imo representation within the period under review has sunk solar powered boreholes to the satisfaction of the people . With 20 fully operational, 2 facilities ongoing and work on another batch nearing Mobilization stage, it is expected that about 58 communities in the federal constituency would have been attended in the nearest future.
20 completed
2 ongoing
4 at mobilization stage
SOLAR & ELECTRIFICATION PROJECTS
Ikenga Imo representation undertook an ambitious installation of Solar lights across towns and villages in the federal constituency. From the impeccable records, little over 2000 solar lights were disbursed and installed at strategic locations in the communities. It also provided functional 500KVA transformers to needy communities thrown into darkness for ages thereby bringing the number of transformers distributed to seven (7).
Installation of 500kVA transformers in:
Obodoukwu — Completed
Abukwa Umuobom — Completed
Umuopia Akokwa — Completed
Dikenafai – Ongoing
Ogwume – Ongoing
Akpulu – Ongoing
Umukegwu – Ongoing.
His representation also facilitated the installation of 10kV solar mini-grid at Anglican Convent, Umuokwara, Akokwa as a result unburdening the persistent need for electricity within the school.
COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE
Ikenga Imo representation continues to thrill.constistuents by providing adequate interventions for communities to achieve their various community development goals (CDG). Town halls were being rebuilt as part of this community initiative. Benefiting communities include
Reconstruction of Umuago Hall — Ongoing
Reconstruction of Ndiowerri hall Umuchima ideato south – Ongoing.
MARKET DEVELOPMENT
Hon Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere representation also waded into the perenial shortage of place of doing business and conduct trade in some notable markets in Ideato nation. His representation facilitated the provision of three blocks of 10 Open sheds each (totaling 30 shops in number) at Afor Urualla, Ideato North LGA to the delight of market women, businessmen and artisans.
Today, the market women and traders alike at Afor Urualla, have heaved sigh of relief as they no longer do their businesses under the scorching sun or at the mercy of the rains.
PROVISION OF POVERTY ALLEVIATION AND YOUTH EMPOWERNMENT INITIATIVE
With a brand of representation that seeks to reduce poverty by engaging all constituents irrespective of their party affiliations, Hon Barr Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere’s representation has been able to cushion the effect of the economic downturn prevalent in the land.
His constituency-lifting poverty alleviation empowerment drive has led to distribution of Shuttle Buses, Keke Tricycles, and various Motorbikes to constituents in need, who could handle the intricacies of such transportation service.
Again, during festive periods, Oje Ozi Ideato, as a tradition which preceded his election into office, would put smiles on the faces of Ideato families and their political wards by distributing thousands of food and essential items including grains such as rice, beans etc to them. He would not leave them go without means to defray costs, he is known to dole out cash to as many overwhelmingly happy constituents as possible who would converge on his Akokwa expansive country-home to bid him welcome.
This is seen as the first of its kind in the entire tapestry of Ideato representative governance, further butressing Hon Barr Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere’s public image as a compassionate federal lawmaker who cares for his people.
ROADS, DRAINAGE & EROSION CONTROL EFFORTS
Through his fiery advocacies, *Hon Barr. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere* has been profoundly committed to controlling the worsening erosion menace plaguing Urualla communities. To this end, his representation has facilitated construction of a 1.2km drainage system in an effort to checkmate erosion menace ravaging the Umuago axis of the community. Same intervention from the outspoken honourable member had greeted Umuchima Erosion site before government undertook the road reconstruction and erosion control projects.
CONCLUSION
Observably, the wide spread effect of the legislative representation of *Hon Barr Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere from the foregoing is arguably all encompassing and all embracing in that hardly will you find a clan or village, community or town in Ideato federal constituency that does not feel its impacts. His legislative performance is so measurable and compelling that it features in most talking points amongst the people forming the pivot upon which the wheel of his re-election bid rotates. The arguments in favour of his return to the Lower Chamber are so strong that some of his sworn critics are either falling back to line rescinding their earlier decisions to oppose it or silenced for good not by vitriolic but by the conviction that here is now a man who has delivered the goods of legislative dividends to his people without bias or prejudice.
