Gov Otti rallies Igbo leaders to inspire youth, reaffirm commitment to economic growth

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has urged Igbo leaders to remain courageous and continue providing the needed guidance to younger generations in order to help them surpass past achievements.

He made this call while receiving a delegation of the Igbo Leaders of Thought led by Professor Elochukwu Amuchiazi.

Governor Otti reiterated his administration’s commitment over the past two years to rebuilding Abia and restoring the dignity of its people.

He emphasized the importance of leadership, direction, and mentorship from elder statesmen in shaping a better future.

On the issue of security in the South-East, the Governor noted that his administration has made significant progress in restoring peace, especially in towns like Umunneochi and Isuikwuato which were previously under siege by bandits.

He disclosed that the recently held Abia State Security Trust Fund Luncheon was part of a broader strategy to support ongoing efforts in crime prevention and public safety.

He highlighted that job creation, investment promotion, and a business-friendly environment are key strategies being deployed to reduce crime and youth involvement in criminal activities. According to him, gainfully employed individuals are less likely to engage in banditry or kidnapping.

Governor Otti appreciated the Igbo Leaders of Thought for their continued advocacy for the Igbo cause and encouraged them to offer their experience and expertise for the benefit of the Igbo nation.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation, Professor Elochukwu Amuchiazi, emphasized the group’s desire for a Nigeria where the Igbo are fully integrated and free to pursue their aspirations.

He also commended the Governor for his developmental strides and commitment to the welfare of the people.

Also speaking, Professor Obasi Igwe applauded the Governor for his developmental efforts, especially in the areas of security, road infrastructure, and the revitalization of Aba.

He stressed the economic importance of a functional seaport in the South-East and called on the Federal Government to support the dredging of the Imo River through Opobo, a historically significant Igbo-founded seaport, to open the region to international maritime trade.
