ABSU Pro-chancellor seeks improved synergy between Alumni and University

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman ABSU Governing Council, Rt. Hon. Dr. Agwu U. Agwu, has called on the members of the Alumni Association of the University to be on the same page and seek stronger synergy and collaboration for a greater impact and development of the University.

Agwu who made this call during a meeting with the representatives of the different branches of the ABSU Alumni Associations at the Faculty of Law Umuahia location, welcomed members of the University Alumni association and thanked them for honouring the invitation to the meeting.

He emphasized the importance of members improving synergy across chapters and speaking in one voice for the interest and development of the University.

“We are passionate about changing the narratives of ABSU and we can’t achieve that without the involvement of the Alumni. The Alumni must take their rightful position towards the development of the University of our dream”.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor Abia State University Uturu, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Academic, Professor Emmanuel I. Akubugwo, expressed satisfaction with the attendance to the meeting and highlighted some of the achievements of the present administration, which he attributed to the support of the Governor and Visitor to the University, Dr. Alex C. Otti, OFR, whose vision is to reposition ABSU to a global standard.

He pointed out some of the recent interventions of the Governor to include, liquidation of backlogs and regular payment of staff salaries, full accreditation of University programmes, approval of recruitment of staff in critical areas of need, approval for the construction of 5,000 capacity hostel each for both male and female students, renovation of some of the existing hostels in the University, approval for the installation of 10 megawatts independent power project in the University, among many others.

The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the Alumni to come and render their own quota for the betterment and development of the University.

While speaking, the leader of the Alumni delegation, Barr. Umeh Kalu (SAN), expressed joy for such a gathering, stating that it has been long expected.

He lauded the efforts of the administration in providing a platform to interact and harmonise the Alumni Association, adding that Alumni as a body is ready to give their own quota in the development of the University, hence, all resolutions will be made adequately and promptly.

Barrister Umeh appreciated the Governor and Visitor to the University, Dr. Alex C. Otti, OFR, for his interventions and vision towards the University and appreciated the University Management for their unprecedented achievements within a short period in office, as well as the Alumni members who graced the meeting despite their tight schedules.

He added that the association will appoint an interim representative who will be standing in for them while proper arrangements are been made.

In his contribution, Chief Eric Egwuibe, stated that it is worthy to note that Alumni Association of ABSU is capable in all ramifications to support the University and assured that very soon ABSU will begin to see the impact of a rejuvenated Alumni Association of the University.

”Alumni have a big role to play in bringing back the glory of the University and after today, Alumni Association of ABSU will be rebranded” he added.

The Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu Ph.D, also an Alumnus, in his vote of thanks, commended the ingenuity of the Pro-Chancellor, Rt.Hon. Dr. Agwu U. Agwu, describing him as a pathfinder and leader par excellence, for making this bold step to reunite the Alumni Association.

He appreciated the Alumni members for their courage and sacrifices so far and encouraged members to see themselves as stakeholders in the growth of Absu.
