Uche Mark Nwosu: Corrupt men are always liars

Some liars are so expert in telling lies that they don’t know when they deceive themselves.

Benjamin Kalu, Obinna Oriaku, John Okiyi, and Eze Chikanayo have so much lied that they now lie against themselves. Imagine Benjamin Kalu joined Governor Alex Otti to commission 7 road projects at Aba and Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia. He wasn’t compelled by anyone to join us on our movement to Umuahia and Aba. It’s worthy to note that when we arrived at Ohanku Road to commission the 6.6km road, His Excellency, Governor Otti, handed over the microphone to Benjamin Kalu to speak. In his speech, he commended Dr. Alex Otti for his outstanding performance in spreading democratic dividends in Abia State.

When we got to Enyimba Sports stadium for the receiption of Mr President who was represented by Engr Dave Umahi, Benjamin Kalu was called upon for his speech, he started looking for a way to tactically counter his statement at Ohanku Road by trying to change the definition of statutory allocation.
When Benjamin Kalu, couldn’t achieve his aim at the stadium he hurriedly left in anger to his home town in Bende LGA, where he quickly organised a rented crowd for a political rally and started telling lies against himself by trying to engage the people he rented in an unreasonable academic argument. Imagine Ben telling them that why the previous administration didn’t achieve anything was because the monthly statutory allocation they received was little compare with what the present administration receives. What a shameful and idiotic statement! The reckless statement amounts to a high level of charade and as such, an act of cowardice.

Benjamin Kalu, Obinna Oriaku, Eze Chikanayo and Okiyi should know that its only an extraordinary people-oriented recorded achievements that will compel the number of people on this video clip to leave their homes and businesses to welcome a very simple and colourful politician, Dr Alex Otti. It’s ridiculous and very unfortunate that Benjamin Kalu could reason in a manner and runs his mouth in a manner that portrays him as someone who lacks a good sense of reasoning and sense of direction.

Prior to the inception of Dr Alex Otti led administration, even my little daughter knew in the year 2022 that something was wrong with Abia State. A situation where Abia workers-civil servants, thousands of primary and secondary school teachers, university lecturers and parastatals were owed over 23 months arrears of salaries, pensioners also owed arrears of pensions, all the public schools in the state were dilapidated and shut down, all government hospitals weren’t functioning, all the Primary Health Centres closed, almost all the roads both state and federal were at the level of 3D roads (deadly, dangerous and dirty), the state’s economy was badly weakened, basic infrastructures were at zero level, the security of lives and property wasn’t guaranteed, The dignity of Abians was reduced to 1%, hundreds of Abians were dying on monthly basis out of frustration, hunger and lack of quality healthcare. Benjamin Kalu looked at all these and boldly stated without shame that it was “alright” that previous governments left the state in a terrible condition just because the state monthly statutory allocation they received wasn’t exactly what the current statutory allocation is without considering the dollar exchange rate, inflation rate and time value of money then.

However, I’m very much aware that Abia statutory allocation then was about N7 billion and not N4 billion as claimed by Benjamin Kalu. The N38 billion he made mention of as Abia current statutory allocation was ficticious and malicious. He did so to see if he could score cheap political points but didn’t succeed.

That’s why Abians are not surprised at the contents of his recent unguarded utterances. They are undoubtedly a reflection of the character, inner thoughts and ideology of those surrounded him, who destroyed the destinies of millions of Abia sons and daughters. Their ignoble ideas are clearly incompatible with the ideology of Governor Alex Otti, who has demonstrated the qualities of a true leader and democrat right from the first day he assumed office as the Governor of Abia State.

Abians are, however, not surprised also that these agents of darkness have officially adopted the use of fabrications having exhausted their campaign of calumny and fake promises which were not able to upstage the verifiable achievements of Governor Alex Otti led administration.

If Ben Kalu is regular on social media, I’m sure he must have read the Former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development of Nigeria, Dr Uchechukwu Ogah’s comment on the state of Abia during his speech at Rev. Fr. Anokwuru’s book lunch, where he stated that “It’s only people that are made of darkness that can deny that light has come to Abia State.”

Since Ben Kalu, Mr Obinna Oriaku, and John Okiyi have allowed lies to becloud your sense of vision and reasoning, let me take them on the journey on Dr Alex Otti’s monumental achievements:

1.Civil Service Reform and Payment of Salaries:

Dr Alex Otti cleared over 22 months of unpaid salaries and pensions left behind by previous administrations and put in place a monthly salary system where workers and pensioners are now paid promptly – 28th of every month. In furtherance, a digital payroll and verification platform was introduced to eliminate ghost workers and sanitise the system.

2.Health Sector
200 Primary Health Centres were renovated and equipped with modern hospital equipment with and enough staff. Another 200 PHCs have been selected for renovation and retrofitting. Also, Umihe cottage in Isialangwa South and Nkporo cottage hospitals were retrofitted. Abia State Teaching Hospital, Aba was also renovated and equipped. The following general hospitals are being renovated and retrofitted – Ikwuano, Obingwa, Okeikpe-Ukwa West, Arochukwu, and Ohafia general hospitals. Also, the Sustainable Development Multipurpose Hospital in Ugwunagbo was functionalized.

Amachara General Hospital, Umunneato Specialist Hospital, and government college hospital Abayi are ongoing.

Governor Otti ensured that accreditation for Abia teaching hospital, which was lost for five years, was restored. This enabled the training of 60 house officers and increased the college quota by 25%. He also activated the Abia State Health Insurance Scheme, ensuring that healthcare services are affordable and accessible to all citizens.

Governor Otti’s administration launched a Free Medical Service Initiative, providing diagnostics, laboratory services, counselling, and drug supply to thousands of Abians in rural and urban communities.

3.Education Sector
The retroffiting of over 200 public schools across the state is almost at the stage of completion. Also, the introduction of regular teacher training programs and also launched the Abia Innovation and Tech Hub, creating access to digital training and remote job opportunities for Abia youths.

Also, Governor Otti’s administration introduced free and compulsory basic education. To ensure the state educational goals are achieved, the state government employed 5,000 teachers and also has concluded plans to employ more.

All the tetiary institutions in the state were not left behind in the development of Abia education sector to global standards.

a).Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic has been extensively renovated and retrofitted, including the renovation of every building on campus, the construction of a new school gate and a 300-seater lecture theater, and the upgrade of the sports complex. Other improvements include the establishment of a digital creativity studio, consistent electricity supply, and many other ongoing projects.

The Aba Polytechnic also regained accreditation for 33 of its programs the school lost under the previous administration. The polytechnic also introduced 17 new courses and made other improvements to its academic environment, such as outlawing the sale of handouts and digitalizing processes. It’s interesting to note the main site of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic will be flaged-off before the end of the year.

Abia State University, Uturu

b).Hostel A in Abia State University Uturu was renovated and retrofitted by Governor Otti’s administration, which is a practical demonstration of his belief that Abia sons and daughters deserve the best environment to live and study, decided to build a 10,000 capacity male and female hostels. In addition to the new Faculty of Law and Faculty of Agriculture Buildings, and a brand new staff school, all under construction; with a newly drilled 32000 litre borehole to ensure constant availability of potable water for the students.

c). The Government of Alex Otti also comprehensively retrofitted key infrastructures at the Abia State College of Education Technical, Arochukwu (ASCETA), as part of its broader commitment to restoring standards and promoting excellence in higher education. The massive upgrade includes the total overhaul and modernization of the College Library, complete renovation of the Vocational Education Block, refurbishment of Student Hostels, and full-scale improvement of the School of Technical Education. In addition, the campus road network is also receiving attention to enhance accessibility and movement within the school environment.

4.Road Infrastructure
Road construction and rehabilitation are opening up new communities and driving business growth. Our benchmark currently is not just the kilometres of roads constructed and rehabilitated. What we are concerned about is the economic and social impact they bring.
The total number of over 211.94 km of roads done by contractors have been completed and commissioned.

*Over 281 road projects have also been completed by direct labour.

*We have over 80 road projects ongoing.

*The number of ongoing Direct Labour Road Projects currently is 74.

It’s also interesting to note that Governor Alex Otti fixes both state and federal roads. For instance, the newly constructed Omenuko bridge to Arochukwu is almost at 93% completion. Another federal road is from Ohafia through Ihechiowa to Arochukwu, which is also at the advanced stage. Port Harcourt, which was recently commissioned, is also a federal road. Before the end of October, another federal road will be flaged-off (Ikot-Ekpene Road).

5.Retrofitting of Government Buildings

The following government buildings were retrofitted and well furnished:

*Banquet Hall, Government House, Michael Okpara Auditorium, JAAC building, Office of the Secretary to The State Government, the two State Secretariats, Political block at government house and among others.

6.In a bid to have an organized transportation system in the state, Governor Otti contracted a reputable company – Planet Project that is currently constructing a world- class express bus terminal in Umuahia and Aba. That of Umuahia is at the advanced stage. While that of Aba will soon commenced.

7.Of course, it’s a recognized fact that investors, both local and international, don’t invest in a place that isn’t suitable for investment. But because Abia State is now seen globally as a peaceful state and conducive place for investment, that’s why ambassadors of the foreign embassies in Nigeria are visiting Abia for discussions on foreign direct investments.

8.Economy
Abia’s economy has witnessed a significant boost in the state GDP and a high level of reduction in poverty rates. The administration’s focus on creating an enabling environment for businesses has attracted billions of Naira investments and generated over 9,000 new jobs in Abia.
Night life is back in Abia State. Banks are now approaching civil servants, including teachers, for overdrafts and loans because they are aware that the state salary payment system is working perfectly.

9.Housing
In a significant step towards reducing the housing deficit in Abia which was created by past administration, Governor Otti’s administration has concluded arrangements with over 5 different estate developers to spread huge number of housing units across the state – Umuahia, Osisioma, Obingwa, Aba and Ukwa. All the communities involved have been adequately settled. Soonest, the flag-off will kick off.

Environment
Abia State, which was regarded as one of the dirtiest states in Nigeria, under the previous administration, is ranked currently as one of the cleanest states in Nigeria. Governor Otti was able to achieve this because a moribund agency known as Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) was revived. All the trucks used for evacuation of refuse dumps and the big buckets for refuse disposal that are now everywhere were all purchased by the current administration. Also, hundreds of Abians were employed to work for the agency.

In addition to the above, RADISSON BLU has commenced the construction of Enyimba Hotel, which has been in the comatose stage since the 1980s.

It’s pertinent to note that all of the above was achieved within 2 years and a few months without the state government borrowing a dime. Is this not amazing?

My message to Rt Hon Ben Kalu, know this, that Dr Alex Otti is not in a beauty contest with you and we are not concerned about your noise making and will never get disturbed about what you are doing because you are a nobody. Go test your popularity in the streets and rural areas of the state and wait for us at the political battle field in 2027. You guys should know that it’s practically impossible for the power of a few insignificant individuals to withstand the power of millions of Abians that have tested good governance.

To Mr Eze Chikanayo, the political jobseeker, the state has gone ahead of you guys. You’ve benefitted a lot from the state, it’s time for you to take your eyes away from Abia government and go look for something else to do for a living, so you can become useful to the society.

To Obinna Oriaku, who runs his mouth like public tap on a daily basis without looking at his age, you will never again have the opportunity to get close to Abia State treasury. That style are used to – sharing Abia money is gone forever.

Finally, to my dear brothers and sisters in Abia State, in your quiet time, please, get your bible, read Mark the fourth chapter. Study the 37 verse and go down to the 41 verse. In the context of these verses, you will find a story of Jesus and his disciples, as they got on the boat and went out of the Sea of Galilee. After a little while, the cosmic phenomenon of the world broke loose. The colour of the sky turned dark like a thousand midnight. The thunders rolled across the heavens, the lightening rolled zig zig in the bottom of the cloud, and the water tossed around the little boat. When Jesus’ attention was drawn to the situation, He said, “Oh you of little faith, why are you so concerned about the situation?”. He raised his hand and said just three words – “Peace Be Still.” The sun immediately came out, the cloud disappeared, the thunder hushed its voice, the wind went back in its Chambers and slammed the doors, and the water lay down like a baby.
