The Abia Mandate For Future group, a political support group, has endorsed the Rt Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, saying that they only support saleable candidates and performing leaders.

The group made the declaration on Tuesday, during a courtesy visit to the Abia Speaker at the Abia Legislative House in Umuahia.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the convener, Hon. Gabriel Idika Ukairo, said the endorsement was based on Speaker Emeruwa’s track record of effective representation, legislative leadership, and commitment to the people of Aba South and Abia State at large.

According to Hon. Idika,”First, Mr Speaker, we wish to appreciate you for your leadership style in the state. As the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, we know you are doing well and your support to the government.

“So, we, the leadership of the Abia Mandate for Future, came to applaud you and tell you our readiness. And also, tell you how we are ready to support the government ad your support your administration. And then, through throw weight behind you and behind the governor, as we endorse you for your reelection bid in your constituency as a member representing our Aba South.”

The group pledged to mobilise across the 17 LGAs of Abia State to support Speaker Emeruwa and other candidates who have shown capacity and results.

“So we, the Abia Mandate, are out and ready to work tirelessly within the grassroots level to ensure that we mobilise groups in different ways to make sure we support your reelection.” Hon. Idika said.

The convener also strongly stated that the group only identify with and support leaders whom he described as ‘saleable’, noting that they are constrained to this standard as Abians deserve the best.

“At the moment, we are meeting some stakeholders, both the political officeholders and non-political officeholders, and aspirants. We are hearing their views. We are hearing from them to know what they have in mind, to know what they have to offer, to know what they have to give, so that we can know if they are worthy enough for us to throw our endorsement. Because in our mandate we believe in a better Abia. So, anybody we should offer should be saleable for Abians to buy.” Hon. Idika explained.

Responding, Speaker Emeruwa thanked the Abia Mandate Group for the endorsement and assured them of his continued commitment to good governance, people-orientated legislation, and support for Gov. Alex Otti’s administration.

The Rt Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa stressed that the fundamental objective of the 8th Assembly is to drive the development of the state and uphold the welfare of Abians by providing the necessary support to the governor through meaningful legislation.

The speaker stated that the impressive accomplishments of the Gov. Otti-led administration and the performance of the 8th Abia Assembly have earned the Labour Party great admiration among Abians; therefore, the party shall have a great outing at the polls.

The speaker added that the reward for good work is more work; thus, Gov. Alex Chioma Otti, himself, and other Labour Party candidates shall be consolidating their exploits after the 2027 elections.

Emeruwa urged the group to consolidate efforts across the 17 LGAs for good governance. He also advised them to keep their narrative issue-based and avoid sycophancy or divisive politics.
