2027 elections: ADC chairman, David Mark raises alarm on government plot to use courts against party

Senator David Mark, Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has raised concerns over alleged plans by the current administration to use the judiciary to undermine the party’s growing influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mark made the statement during a meeting with the ADC’s National Legal Support Group in Abuja, led by Abdullahi Abdurrahman.

Abdurrahman revealed that over 310 lawyers, with representation in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have volunteered to defend the ADC in ongoing and future legal battles across Nigeria.
The legal team includes prominent figures such as the ADC’s Legal Adviser, Peter Oyewole; former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN; and former Edo State Governor, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor.
“We are fully prepared to handle any case against the ADC anywhere in the country,” Abdurrahman declared.
The legal team expressed confidence in the ADC’s leadership under Senator Mark, praising his integrity and urging him to leverage his experience to elevate the party to national prominence.
Abdurrahman also called on the party’s Legal Adviser to provide necessary documentation and updates to ensure the team’s effectiveness.
In response, Oyewole assured the group that all legal protocols related to the recent coalition forming the new ADC were meticulously followed, stating, “There is no cause for alarm.”
However, Senator Mark warned that the ADC’s rising momentum makes it a target.
“The ADC is the party to beat in 2027. The current administration may attempt to use the courts to frustrate our progress,” he cautioned.
He urged Nigerians to support the ADC as a credible and patriotic alternative to lead the nation forward.
Mark commended the legal team’s dedication, encouraging them to remain vigilant as the ADC strengthens its grassroots presence and prepares for the 2027 elections.
