A socio-political body in the fold of the All Progressives Congress in Abia state,, Bende APC 13-13, has called on the deputy speaker of the house of representatives, Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu to shield plan to contest the Abia governorship seat election in 2027.

The call by the APC group was contained in a communique issued after an emergency general meeting held on Sunday, 12th April, 2026 at Uzuakoli in Bende local government area of Abia State.

The communique was signed by the Secretary of Bende APC 13-13, Ajah Ogbonnaya Ajah.

According to the pro-democracy body, “It is wrong that Ben Kalu should start a governorship campaign since the newly elected state chairman of the APC hails from the same community in Bende local government area.

“And we noted with dismay that the said Ben Kalu does not respect agreement. He rode on the back of Bende 13-13 to the house of representatives.

“The Bende 13-13 had campaigned vigorously against his predecessor, Rep Nnenna Ukeje-Elendu and insisted that the lady had gone to the national assembly three times.

“Which stipulates that a candidate of ikwu ishi must go the house of representatives once and it returns umunnato extraction.

“We were approached by the current senator representing Abia North. Who convinced us to work for Benjamin Kalu. At that time, we made it abundantly clear to him that the position was rotational between Bende south and Bende North. And that he will do only one term. He agreed.

“We worked accordingly and he won. His re-election in 2023, sparked off a lot of bad blood within the ranks of Bende because that “re- election” was in total contrast with the campaign that brought him to office. The rest they say is history.

“Today, Mr. Ben Kanu has begun another journey of perfidy. He wants to become governor. He goes about boasting about “getting signal from Abuja” and thereby creating wrong impression in the minds of the Abia voters, as if Abuja would come to vote for him in Abia.

Bende APC 13-13, therefore, called on the national working committee of the All Progressives Congress, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and all lovers of equity to call Hon Benjamin Kalu to order for the interest of the party
